Big Salty Range Officer Rules 2026
With its proximity to a major metro area, Big Salty is a rare and precious resource. Due to the extreme risk posed
by accidental shots over the berm, high powered rifle rounds like 5.56mm are only permitted in competition from
April 1st to October 31st. Big Salty RO’s can shoot 5.56mm caliber rifles on the first 3 west most bays
(100 yard, Gallows, and Courthouse), and only for approved private events and RO reservations.
When using rifle calibers in these bays, it is REQUIRED to use only due north oriented targets. If you witness a
round going over any berm, you MUST call the state's number at (385) 212-4946 and report it.
Failure to do so imperils the existence of our range.
Violation of any of these rules is grounds for immediate range access removal and a potential lifetime ban.
NOTE: ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE IS IN EFFECT AT THE BIG SALTY RANGE
-
When entering the range close the gate behind you to keep out unwanted individuals and falsely lock the gate by
wrapping the chain back around both gates, this includes closing the gates if you arrive at the range and the gates
were already open for some reason. If the gates are open and there is an active match going on at the range (SLPSA,
NRL, Cowboys, etc..) please leave the gates open. BE SURE to re-lock all locks- including the bluetooth lock or
it will kill the battery- do not leave an open hasp on any lock. - Raise the red flag on the telephone pole at the entrance if it is not up already.
-
When leaving the range, if you are the last person to leave, please lower the flag and place it in the box and lock the
gate. Make sure there are no other people on the range before you lock the gate! - Failure to lock the gate if you are the last person out of the range will result in a 30 day suspension.
- No parking in bays. No driving in bays when the ground is wet.
-
All targets must be placed in a manner so that all rounds will impact a berm and not the range floor. Rounds that hit
the range floor will skip off and go over the back berm. All shooters are responsible for their rounds staying within the
confines of this range. This includes rounds deflected off the range floor or steel targets. Personal steel targets MUST
deflect rounds downwards to the range floor. -
Big Salty Range Officer reservations are limited to 3 hours per day on one bay only unless you have an approved
event application. -
Big Salty Range Officers can only shoot on the bay that they have a reservation for. Shooting on any bay
without a reservation for any reason will be a 30 DAY SUSPENSION of Range Officer privileges.NOTE: SPECIAL USPSA STAGE RULE
IF A USPSA STAGE IS SET UP IN A BAY THAT YOU HAVE RESERVED, UNLESS YOU ARE THE STAGE BUILDER,
YOU MAY NOT TOUCH, SHOOT, MODIFY, OR OTHERWISE DISTURB THE STAGE IN ANY MANNER. THIS
INCLUDES NOT SHOOTING ANY POPPERS, PROPS, TARGETS, WALLS OR OTHER CLUB PROPERTY. ANY
VIOLATORS WILL RECIEVE A 30 DAY SUSPENSION OF RO PRIVILEGES AT THE BIG SALTY RANGE, AND MAY
BE SUSPENDED FROM THE SLPSA COMPETITION FOR WHICH THE STAGE IS SET. - Big Salty is a cold range. Firearms may only be loaded at the direction of a Big Salty Range Officer.

Range Officers on the Range Officer calendar. You must be a Big Salty RO to gain access to online reservations.

IMMEDIATE 30 DAY RO PRIVILEGE SUSPENSION -
All guest shooters must sign, date, note the supervising Big Salty RO or training organization, and sign the liability
waiver and pay the appropriate fees. A parent or guardian must sign for any minors. -

reservations with 48 hours’ notice on the 100 yard Scope Registration bay. Only directly North facing targets can be
used and rounds must impact the rear berm directly. - The Big Salty Range observes the "180" rule. Keep your muzzle pointed down range or you will be asked to leave.
-
Negligent Discharges that leave the range (shots that go over any berm) must be IMMEDIATELY reported to the
